Lukas Kesler is a Berlin-based scenographer and sculptor. His degree in architecture laid the foundation for his profound interest in interiors and culminated in 2018 with a degree in scenography and stage design. In 2019, during a public performance in Berlin’s Tiergarten, Lukas Kesler met the stonemason Matthias Heinz. He began working in Heinz’s workshop and has since been setting gravestones with him in Berlin’s cemeteries. Since 2020, he has been realizing his own stone works, which he situates in public space. Referencing Lucius Burckhardt’s concept of promenadology, he is currently collaborating with artist and writer Olga Hohmann on a walking guide. Published by Accidental Interest Books, it brings together several curated walks to his public works and is accompanied by associative essays. In the performative context, Kesler has worked with Olga Hohmann for Kunsthalle Osnabrück, Galerie Anton Janizewski, and Kunstverein Wismar. As a scenographer, he has worked for Schauspielhaus Graz, Theater Aachen, Deutsche Oper, and HAU Berlin. In this context, collaborations have emerged with directors such as Jan Koslowski and Nele Stuhler, as well as with artist and author Clara Heinrich.
